Sketchbook start
FINALLY starting my practical work:
POSITIVES:
- Informative to understand existing forms and colours within packaging
- Useful to look at how colour and form can work together to create different environmental feels
- Most interesting drawing is 'abstract' forms on last spread, shows more than a literal being
NEGATIVES:
- Not very interesting drawings- need a direction
- Simple line drawings are more documentation- need to put my passion and influence into them
- Haven't really been focusing on theories learnt
- Not fun
WHAT NEXT?
- How are these going to help reduce packaging waste??
- Experiment with different media
- Just play and have fun- I want people to be passionate about my project, so I need to be too!
- Try playing with cut paper and shape

Tutorial 3
- Need to start playing with ideas and materials
- All about sustainable practice
- Could it be a combination of outcomes- campaign as well?

BKR Bottles
I found this company at the start of this year, and I love its ethos and ideologies about what a product should be.
Key quotes:
- "Collections are based on runway trends in New York, London, Paris and Milan. To us, fashion is a combination of the art we see during Fashion Week and what is happening around the world now. It doesn't exist in a bubble. That thoughtfulness both drives our creativity and directs our mission"
- "Above all, we believe that the objects in your life should be beautiful, effortless and loved"
Key ideas:
- Sustainability almost seen as an 'extra' to the form and function, despite it being the core ethos
- Product speaks regardless of packaging, where is the line? Could I develop patterns for the actual product/care label?

Tutorial 2
My one to one tutorial with Pete was really useful, as I established a manifesto for my practice in this module, which is to obtain an ethical and sustainable practice, working with a purpose and with colour to create balanced and reduced packaging.
Notes:
-Silent Dawn book
-Monocultures
-Where does the line sit- ethical and sustainable
-Humphery- ‘replacement relationship’
-Aesthetics of recycling- tactile
-Packaging is novelty- industrial revolution
-Examples of people who do what I want to do
-Cardboard technologies

Zero Waste
I stumbled on a video on Facebook about 'Zero Waste Daniel' which led me to his fashion website, and sister 'Package Free' website.
- Interesting to think of innovative ways to reuse waste in a desirable way- sustainability almost by product
- I really want to contact Daniel Silverman about how he founded the company, and what he feels are the most important aspects of his career
- He co-founded the company Package Free, alongside Lauren Singer, from Trash is for Tossers, where they focus on reusable and sustainable products
- Extreme example of how packaging can be cut out, but still present when sustainable and necessary e.g. paper container for stick deodorant

Cop3 First Supervision Session
Key ideas:
- Mass production v recycling
- Re-appropriation and re-cycling
- Colour and sustainability relationship
- Reusable packaging- zero waste
Next Steps:
- Research companies and their sustainability report
- Understand materials- Algae water bottle- needs water to survive, dries and decomposes when empty
- Develop how packaging is needed to satiate demand- no packaging may not be the answer right now
- Look at available materials- what can be reused
- Think about my own sustainable practice
- Research the relationships of colour more
- Look at Ben Shaw's pop bottles- globalisation

- Be selective, don't gather irrelevant, broad research
- Use methodology to gather data through interpretation and analysis
Tutorial 1
-Clarify question
-Outline chapter structure
-Timeline for practical
Tutorial 2
