A selection of my final screenprints based on the imagery, colours and compositions found within the work of my peers:
WHY:
- To create a set of prints which I made from scratch, but only using imagery, colours and materials produced by other peoples work
- To question authorship and what role it plays within illustration
- To see the extent of which anything can be considered original
SUCCESSES:
- I like where the pink and yellow have overlapped to reveal a really peachy colour
- The outcomes with more than one set of a single colour really highlights the synthesis of the set and how they develop their own individual meaning due to the variants in imagery placement
- I think the black line really helps to anchor the piece on the page and give it a sense of place
- Reflects the shape aspect I wanted to explore throughout this project
- Time management was effective, meaning I could devote my time over Easter to this project and get aspects tied up
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Could have added a little more detail into each positive, such as small dots etc
- In some the placement of colour is uneven, I could have spent a little more time focussing on image design
RESOLUTIONS:
- These prints are undeniably mine, yet I feel a definite sense of separation from them, as if they were produce of a collaborative project. I found this an immensely interesting juxtaposition
- The overlapping of colour is evidence of the work taking on its own life and revealing new, unimagined avenues
- Whose are they? Mine? Contributors? No-ones?
- I feel that they really reflect the aim of the collaboration and re-appropriation of art work
KODATRACE:
THOUGHTS:
- Further overlap works really well to strengthen the palimpsest theme
- Wish the kodatrace was less messy, would have shown a more clear, professional outcome
- Add a definite depth to the pieces
